Ayurveda treatment for infertility dates back to several thousand years when modern medicine was nonexistent. Ayurvedic scholars explored infertility with a new approach by improving a couples’ overall health in order to increase their chances of conceiving without any medicinal interference.
Here are few tips which can help you in treating infertility:
  • For healthy conception, it is important to enhance “shukra dhatu” in order to increase the reproductive capacity and health in both men and women. There are many foods and herbs that specifically enhance the “shukra dhatu” in both men and women and are known as vrishya. They include foods items like asparagus, broccoli, milk and dates.
  • In Ayurveda “shukra dhatu” is known as sheet (cold) dhatu which means that shukra needs a cool environment in order to support fertility. Thus too much hot spicy food can decline the quality of “shukra dhatu” and can oppose the enhancing of sperm and ovum.
  • The negative effect of heat on the reproductive system of both men and women has been known by Ayurveda for thousands of years. Now there are several researches which support the fact that in order to produce sufficient quality and quantity of sperm, the temperature of testes must be lower than the body temperature. During normal conditions scrotal sac is kept cool by the body so when person wears a tight clothing it holds the heat inside and does not release it properly thus leading to lower and damaged sperm count
  • For treating the hormonal imbalances in infertility many specific medicated oils are used on the head with “shirodhara” therapy. Special rhythmic movement of the liquid over the forehead at specific point bring the mind into a balanced state. This process stimulates the hypothalamus, pituitary and pineal glands and creates proper communication between them to secrete adequate amounts of hormones, including FSH.
  • In “basti” enema of specific medicated oil is giving via rectum. This therapy procedure is quite helpful in eliminates the “doshas” from rectum and regulates “apan vayu” which improves the quality of semen and ovum
  • Ongoing everyday stress can have adverse impact on our body especially if it continues for the longer period of time. These stressful conditions can decrease the couple’s libido and prevent the healthy conception. In women constant stress can affect ovulation, they ovulate less regularly and thus making it more difficult to conceive. Stress may also affect testosterone levels and sperm production in men
  • “Kapikachhcu or Mucuna Pruriens” is a well-known herb in Ayurveda which is famous for its aphrodisiac properties and is mainly suggested to improve fertility in men. This herb helps men in improving the quantity and quality of the sperm and also increase their reduced libido
  • “Lodhra” improves the fertility in women as it is known for stimulating and increasing the levels of reproductive hormones like FSH (Follicular Stimulating Hormone) and LH (Luteinising Hormone). When “lodhra” is taken with “supari –pak” (herbal formulation) twice a day especially with honey and milk after meals then it is known as boon to a lady having secondary infertility and conception usually takes place with higher success rate
  • “Gokshura” herb shows benefits in both men and female infertility. In men it helps in curing erectile dysfunction and is very effective in improving sperm count and motility. Whereas in women it is known as female fertility tonic which stimulates the ovary and thus making it an excellent choice for women who are not ovulating due to PCOS.
Basically, Ayurveda has provided a very holistic way for the body by enhancing its own ability to produce more healthy sperm and ovum. Ayurveda not only just supports the physical values of conception, but also considers the spiritual and psychological values.
